• Canterbury VTS Awards Dinner - 10th December at Read's
This year's award for Registrar of the Year will be announced at a dinner at Read's restaurant in Faversham, as it was last year. The dinner is on the 10th December, and Dr Livesey will be handing out the voting papers shortly. This is open to Canterbury scheme members only - so apologies to those from Thanet. • A Date for your Diaries
We are having a JOLLY at Marlowes restaurant on the 19th November - everyone is welcome. It will probably start at around 7:30 for 8pm. Marlowes has a BYO policy for wine, so you can save some money by bringing your own good stuff from the offie up the road! Posted Friday, October 31, 2003

• Jobs & Locums Page
I have just set up our new Jobs & Locums notice board. The idea is that we will post up any forthcoming opportunities for partnership, salaried retainer posts and locums as soon as we hear about them. This page will be very useful for those registrars in their final year who are thinking of working in the area when they finish the VTS.
I'll be sending out emails to the Course Organizers to add you to the contributors list for this page, so you can post up any vacancies you hear about. Posted Tuesday, October 14, 2003

• User Accounts set up...
I've been setting up Blogger Accounts for those registrars who have expressed an interest in contributing to this site... Many of you will be receiving emails today which contain your usernames and passwords that you will need to Log In to Blogger and start writing.
In the process of doing this, I have also set up free email accounts. These have addresses of the form:
yourname@ctgpvts.com
and can be accessed from the Web, or via an email client such as Outlook Express. You can use these accounts as much as you like (they are free) or ignore them as you wish! The details of how to use these accounts are also in the emails.
Our trip to London to visit the RCGP and to see Richard III at the Globe Theatre was a great success. We all met at the RCGP in Princes' Gate near Hyde Park at 11am - although someone had kindly driven a lorry into one of the railway bridges on the way, which nearly delayed a few of us. The Royal College is housed in two adjacent townhouses, formerly owned by the American Kennedy family, and next door to the now infamous Iranian Embassy. We started off with coffee and then had a guided tour...

Caroline, Jhumur and Tina on the RCGP balcony.
One of the interesting features of the RCGP (apart from the wonderful building) is that members can book rooms to stay overnight in central London at extremely low rates - great for visits to the theatre or shopping trips etc. It's worth remembering this to try and recoup all those exam fees!

The Royal College of General Practitioners.
After leaving the college, we travelled down to the South Bank of the Thames, and walked along the river to the Globe Theatre, in time to grab a hurried lunch before the play started. The stage was spectacular, and the all-female cast rendered an excellent performance of Richard III that was as close to the original Elizabethan performance as evidence permits.

Kim, Caroline & Patrick set a new trend in fashionable millinery.
After the play, we attended a 'Talking Theatre' seminar where the Musical Director of the production answered questions from the audience, and later enjoyed an excellent evening meal in the Globe restaurant overlooking the river.

Southwark Bridge by night, on the way home.
A very good time was had by all - and we finally made the trip back to Canterbury by train - with the exception of Tina, Patrick and Jhumur who decided to go have a look at David Blaine on the way! Posted Wednesday, October 01, 2003
