The Winter 2003 MRCGP results are now available on the RCGP website (click here) and there is some good news for our registrars:
Tina Farid passed both the oral and video components.
Dan Horton- Szar passed the oral.
Venkat Reddy passed the oral and MCQ components.
Sioned Jones passed the video and got a MERIT in the oral! (we're not worthy...)
and Lalida Coopamah-Stern got the whole exam with a MERIT.
Not surprisingly, there won't be any lunchtime meetings for the Canterbury VTS over Christmas and New Year (24th and 31st December); the next meeting will take place on the 7th January 2004.
If anyone finds this too upsetting then a) you are far too keen for your own good and b) try spending Christmas Eve reading the BJGP - that should make you feel better.
The program for the January - March 2004 term is now available for download. It is not completely final yet so there may be a few changes, but I'll update as necessary. The major change to the schedule is that the lunchtime meetings at both Margate & Canterbury will only take place on days when the teaching is at that site - it means we can make the long drive earlier, and hopefully finish a little earlier too.
Another plan for the Canterbury side is that lunch will now take the form of a buffet, rather than individual meals from the canteen - this is to allow a more structured form of teaching in these meetings, and perhaps some useful exam preparation.
There will not be any lunch time meetings on Moday @ QEQM From 7th jan.04 but , instead, these meetings will be on Wednasdays. Lunch time meetings will be on every Wednesday apart from the Wednesday half day teachings at K & C, Canterbury. Posted Tuesday, December 16, 2003

• Relocation of the JCPTGP
Just got this message via Nina Tafa at the KSS Deanery...
"The JCPTGP is relocating and our offices will be closed from 5pm on Thursday 8th January 2004 to 2pm on Monday 19th January 2004. If we can re-open any sooner than this we will.
From Monday 12th January, the JCPTGP’s new contact details will be:
JCPTGP
1st floor
19, Buckingham Street
London WC2N 6EF
Our web site address will continue to be www.jcptgp.org.uk
Our email address will continue to be enquiry@jcptgp.org.uk
I realise that for some the offices being closed may be inconvenient. We will re-open as soon as we can and throughout January and February applications from doctors who have just completed their vocational training schemes and who need their JCPTGP certificate to work in UK general practice will be prioritised.
Please bear with us during our move and accept our apologies for any inconvenience you experience."
Our annual VTS Awards dinner at Read's was a great success last night. The event takes place in honour of Mrs Kwan Chan, one of Peter Livesey's patients who generously bequeathed a fund to award an annual prize to the 'Registrar of the Year' - as voted for by all the other registrars on the Canterbury scheme.
The registrars at Read's...from the left: Shree, Sioned, Jane, Tina, Steve, Jhumur, Dan, Jenny and Bimal.
The evening started with champagne before dinner, and time for a few photographs...

Kim & Jenny before dinner.
Our current group of medical students certainly enjoyed the evening, as did Bill on the right, who is joining us as a new registrar in February.

Jane and Sioned.
An excellent meal followed, with much hilarity in some quarters. Finally, Peter announced the award winners.
Little black dresses were compulsory that evening.
The award winners - Tina won first prize, with Dan & Sioned coming in equal second place.
The three of us who won the award were extremely touched - this is a particularly special honour as the winner is chosen by a vote of confidence from all the registrars on the VTS scheme. All the winners are about to finish their training, and this was a wonderful way to finish off the VTS - thanks to all who voted and especially to Kim & Peter for all their support over the last three years!
General pre-Christmas bash. We will be meeting at 6:30pm at the Two Sawyers Pub on Ivy Lane, Canterbury, then on to Bangkok House for 7:30. Partners/friends welcome too - we are paying for ourselves!! Let Jenny know if you can make it. Posted Wednesday, December 10, 2003

• Lalida's Study-Plan for the GP Registrar year
Lalida has sent me some excellent articles for the site which should prove extremely useful. The first is a generalised version of her own study plan that she used in her GPR year. Lalida is extremely organised (which puts me to shame!) and those approaching their year in practice could do a lot worse than taking a leaf from her book. Click here to download the Word file.
