Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital, Margate, Kent
View from the Ramsgate Road Entrance
The Margate VTS scheme, like most, is divided into two years in hospital posts as an SHO and a final year in a local practice as a GP registrar.
The SHO posts are based at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate and the Registrar posts in one of the neighbouring towns or villages.
During the whole three year program both SHOs and Registrars meet weekly in the QEQM Postgraduate centre for a discussion of cases or issues of importance to any members of the team. This meeting is attended by trainees, local trainers and course organisers.
This provides a good opportunity for the group to get to know each other, support each other and develop a relationship which is often continued as new GPs locally.
In addition to these local meetings the Margate scheme joins with the Canterbury trainees for a formal educational program each Wednesday afternoon for three ten week terms throughout the year.
This half day release course is included in the study leave allowance of both SHOs and Registrars and all trainees are expected to attend.
