The practice was in a Grade II Listed Building, which was modernized in 1989. It was opened as Ramsgate Seamen’s Infirmary in 1849 and was virtually the forerunner of Ramsgate hospital. The Practice moved into the building in 1990 and from 1 July 2005 became a 6 doctor (5½ whole time equivalent) General Practice partnership with a list size on 1 Jan 2006 of 9985. The surgery is well appointed, being close to the centre of Ramsgate. It was expanded in 1996, by the addition of an adjoining bungalow, which was connected to the practice as an annexe. With increases in the number of GPs and practice nurses, the capacity for expansion now no longer exists in the previous building.

The new surgery building, was completed in December 2006, is in Montefiore Ward on the East Cliff of Ramsgate.

The Grange Medical Centre has a tradition of providing outstanding service, which was formally recognized by the award of 2 successive Charter Marks: the nationally recognized quality award for providing excellent service. The practice was also an NHS Beacon Practice as a consequence of its patient participation initiatives. The Practice achieved an excellent QOF score of 1,020 in 2004 and is on target to increase that significantly in 2005.

The practice is committed to providing NHS care as effectively as possible within the resources at its disposal. To assist the achievement of better standards of service, the practice continues to review the numbers of doctors and nurses and the hours worked. The Practice has 22 Staff including a nursing team of four, (3 RGNs and an HCA). NHS Trust staff attached to the practice includes 2 health visitors, a district nursing team and a midwife who visits the practice twice a week. The practice is a registered Yellow Fever centre.
