This post gives a superb opportunity to develop skills in communicating with palliative care patients including terminally ill patients. It also provides ample opportunities to learn how to manage symptoms in patients with palliative care needs.
In addition the SHO has the opportunity to develop skills in chronic pain management through involvement in the Chronic Pain clinic. Additionally the post holder is able to attend various oncology and oncology related surgical and haematology clinics locally.
Besides informal teaching, there are weekly formal tutorials and a weekly journal club at Pilgrims Hospice. In addition to this the SHO is also expected to attend the Wednesday afternoon GPVTS teaching
